COVID-19 Resources

March 11 Update

We are aware of some colleges' and universities' recent decision to cancel classes and move to online learning. By the end of the week, we will have updated information and an FAQ on our website regarding MPS’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the meantime, we wanted to share with you updated guidance regarding district-sponsored travel and information on personal travel in the wake of growing COVID-19 concerns.

As always, our top priority is the safety of our students, staff and community. Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) continues to be in close contact with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and public health agencies regarding the outbreak of COVID-19 and how we respond in our school district.

District-Sponsored International Travel

MPS is following U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory guidelines.  When guidelines reach Level 3, which advises no “non-essential travel,” MPS has and will cancel student and staff travel. These travel guidelines may change quickly from day to day.  Current travel advisory information can be found here.

District-Sponsored Domestic Travel

MPS is following the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for travel in the U.S. These travel guidelines may change quickly from day to day.  Current information can be found here.

Personal Spring Break Travel

As families and staff  anticipate personal spring break travel, please be aware of current travel guidelines for your destinations.  Currently, travelers returning from Level 3 countries will be asked by both State Health Officials and Minneapolis Public Schools to self-quarantine for 14 days (no school or work) upon their return.

MPS respectfully asks families to follow current state and federal travel guidelines and self-report to schools any restrictions, so all students in our school communities can continue learning. Thank you.

If you are interested in more information about COVID-19, our Health Services Department has compiled up-to-date resources that can be found here.  For further COVID-19 travel-related questions, please contact MDH at 651-201-5414.
