COVID-19 Resources

March 19 update

As families and students settle in at home to keep themselves healthy and slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), we have the following updates and resources to help make this time as comfortable as possible.

Free temporary WiFi services in response to COVID-19

The City of Minneapolis is providing free WiFi in Minneapolis for those who may need temporary internet access during the COVID situation. Visit this webpage for more information.

Enrichment activities and online resources

To be clear, students are not expected to complete lessons that will impact their grades during this current school closing time (March 17-April 5). Families can get packets with enrichment activities for students to keep their minds active during closures. Enrichment packets can be picked up at food distribution sites. Families can also access activities on our Distance Learning webpage.

Child care for emergency and health care personnel

Per Governor Walz's order, MPS is providing child care to health care workers and emergency responders who have children enrolled in an MPS school to ensure these critical jobs continue to function on behalf of the ill and vulnerable. Child care is free for families with children ages 4 to 12, Monday through Friday from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm at designated locations. Please note that individuals will need to provide proof of their employment in the form of a letter from your employer or other worker identification. If you qualify as one of these people and need child care assistance, contact us through email at mpls.kids@mpls.k12.mn.us or by phone at 612.806.1602.

MPS office closures | Student Placement taking calls only

The Davis Educational Center at 1250 W. Broadway Ave. is closed to the public from March 17 through April 5, until otherwise notified. While the Student Placement Office will be closed, enrollment staff are available to answer questions over the phone or families can continue to request their school choice online. All other district buildings are also closed to the public. Decisions about meetings of our Board of Education will be announced at a later date.

Governor Walz highlighted unemployment resources for Minnesotans

At a news conference this afternoon, Governor Walz spoke about the difficult implications of business closings across the state, including by highlighting how unemployment insurance can be found at www.uimn.org. (He recommended going online rather than calling given the growing number of people calling in.)
