March 25 update

Governor announces: Stay in your homes

This afternoon, Governor Walz gave an executive order that all Minnesotans should stay in their homes (shelter in place) to avoid getting and spreading COVID-19. The order takes effect Friday, March 27 at midnight until April 10. He also announced that schools will stay closed until May 4. This means that for MPS schools, we will stay closed from now until May 4 and students will not be coming back to their schools after spring break (April 6), but will stay in their homes until further notice. MPS will soon provide additional information on how Distance Learning will function for students during this time and how we will provide students who need them a computer or device. Here are tips on what you can do to protect yourself from COVID-19.

Third quarter extended to April 16, giving students additional time

MPS has extended the end of the third quarter from March 26 to April 16, adding eight days of instruction before grades are recorded on April 17 (which is a non-student day). This will give teachers additional time to provide instruction that has been disrupted due to school closures. The fourth quarter will begin on Mon., April 20. More information will be provided on how students can prepare for Distance Learning per Governor Walz’s announcement today that schools will be closed until at least May 4.
